Oral surgery in Newport Beach

Dr. Margaret "Molly" Calder opened this office in 1994 with two operatories and a belief that surgery should feel calm and well explained. She retired in 2019, but the office on Avocado Avenue, across from the Newport Beach Central Library and a short walk from Fashion Island, still runs the way she set it up: you meet your surgeon at the consultation, and your surgeon calls you the evening after.

Dr. William Carver, our Chief Medical Officer, operates here. He focuses on full-arch reconstruction, zygomatic implants for patients without enough upper jaw bone, revision of failed implants, and corrective jaw surgery. Dr. Jonathan Blake, a prosthodontist, designs and fits the teeth for those cases in our in-house lab space. Dr. Natalie Chen places implants and sinus lifts and performs Teeth in a Day, and Dr. Ryan Kowalski removes wisdom teeth and handles emergency surgery.

Specialists see patients here too. Dr. Fiona McAllister, our craniofacial surgeon, runs a cleft clinic on Mondays and works with Hoag and CHOC on care that may span many years. Dr. Steven Novak treats TMJ and facial pain and works with sleep physicians on oral appliance and surgical options for sleep apnea.

Dr. Leah Morrison, our dentist anesthesiologist, provides general anesthesia Monday through Thursday, and nurse practitioner Brian O'Connell manages pre-surgery medical reviews. We are open Saturday mornings for consultations. Many patients come from Corona del Mar, Balboa Island, Costa Mesa and Laguna Beach, and some fly in from out of state for complex implant work.
