Our story
Surgery is a few hours. How you feel about it lasts years.
In 1994, Dr. Margaret “Molly” Calder opened a two-chair surgical office in Newport Beach with one rule: explain everything, monitor everything, and call every patient the evening after. The practice still carries her name, and still follows that rule.

From Dr. Carver
“Dr. Calder taught us that the evening call matters as much as the surgery.”
I joined Dr. Calder in Newport Beach in 1999, when Molly was one office and a handful of surgeons. She retired in 2019, but the way she practiced is still how we practice. She met every patient before surgery day. She drew the plan on a scan so people could see it. She wrote one quote, and stood by it. And she called every patient the evening after, because, as she put it, “surgery is a few hours. How a patient feels about it lasts years.”
Today we are 23 offices and 30 surgeons, and we have added things she would have liked: 3D CBCT imaging in every office, guided implant surgery, dedicated anesthesia providers, and AAAHC accreditation across the group. What hasn’t changed is the standard. You meet your surgeon at your consultation. You know the cost before anything is scheduled. And someone who knows your case answers the phone at night.
Thank you for trusting us with your care, or with your patients’ care.
Dr. William Carver, DDS, MD, FACS, Chief Medical Officer
Our standard
Five things we never skip
The same at every office, for every patient, whether it’s one wisdom tooth or a full arch.
- 01
Board-certified surgeons
Every Molly surgeon is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, or a fellow operating under one’s direct supervision.
- 02
Monitored anesthesia
Continuous ECG, pulse oximetry and capnography for every sedation, and a dedicated anesthesia provider for longer cases.
- 03
AAAHC accreditation
Every office is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and reviewed on a regular cycle.
- 04
One written quote
Imaging, anesthesia, surgery and follow-ups in a single estimate, with your dental and medical insurance checked first.
- 05
3D planning
A cone-beam CT scan shows bone, roots and nerves before surgery, so your surgeon plans around your anatomy, not an average.
Our promises
What you can count on
Board-certified surgeons
Every Molly surgeon is board-certified or a fellow working under one. You meet your surgeon at your consultation, not on the day of surgery.
Anesthesia, done properly
IV sedation and general anesthesia with continuous monitoring, and a dedicated anesthesia provider for longer cases. Every office is AAAHC-accredited.
One clear quote
Imaging, anesthesia, surgery and follow-ups in one written estimate before anything is scheduled. We check your dental and medical insurance for you.
We’re with you after
Your surgeon calls the evening after surgery, and a surgeon answers our 24/7 line any night of the week.

Beyond the office
Teaching, and giving back

Molly surgeons teach. Our study clubs meet monthly across Southern California, giving referring dentists CE credit on implant planning, extractions, sedation and pathology. Several of our surgeons also hold teaching appointments with residency programs in Los Angeles and San Diego.
Each year our offices donate surgical care through local free-clinic partners, and our cleft and craniofacial team works with families from across the region.
A calm first step.
Book a consultation online in about a minute. You’ll meet your surgeon, see your scan, and leave with one written quote before anything is scheduled.
