About Dr. Kowalski

Dr. Ryan Kowalski is the surgeon who often takes the call when a tooth breaks on a Friday afternoon or an infection flares overnight. He earned his DDS at the University of Washington School of Dentistry and his MD at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center, the Pacific Northwest’s main trauma center. He joined Molly in 2018.

At Huntington Beach and Newport Beach he removes wisdom teeth and other teeth, and he keeps time in his schedule for same-day emergency visits: swelling, infection, broken teeth and injuries. He uses platelet-rich fibrin, prepared from a small sample of the patient’s own blood, in selected extraction sites to support healing. He is also one of the surgeons who answers Molly’s 24/7 surgeon line on a rotating schedule.

Dr. Kowalski is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He wrote Molly’s guide to what to eat after oral surgery, partly because he cooks, and his patients get his list of favorite soft-food recipes with their recovery instructions. People who see him for an emergency say he explains things fast and clearly, and then sees the plan through at the follow-up visit.

Outside the operating room

He surfs north of the Huntington Beach Pier most mornings and makes a big pot of soup every Sunday, a habit his patients have heard about.

What patients say about Dr. Kowalski

Google

Nervous wreck before the IV. The nurse gave me a warm blanket and headphones, and Dr. Kowalski talked me through it. I do not remember much after that. He called that evening, and I used the 24/7 line once when I was unsure about some bleeding. Very reassuring.

Cracked a molar on a Tuesday morning and had it out with Dr. Kowalski that afternoon. He was straightforward about why it could not be saved and what my implant options were later. Professional and quick.
