Botox for facial lines, clenching and jaw pain, and hyaluronic acid fillers for lips and facial volume, given by oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
Botox and dermal fillers are two of the most widely used non-surgical facial treatments. At Molly they are given by oral and maxillofacial surgeons, whose training centers on the anatomy of the face, jaws and mouth: the muscles, nerves and blood vessels that matter most for both safety and a natural result. Our approach is conservative. The aim is to look rested and like yourself, not changed.
Botox: for lines, clenching and jaw pain
Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) and similar products relax the muscles they are injected into. They have two main uses here:
- Expression lines. Softening frown lines between the brows, forehead lines and crow's feet, and treating a gummy smile or downturned corners of the mouth.
- Clenching, grinding and jaw pain. Injections into the masseter muscles at the angle of the jaw can reduce the force of clenching and the muscle pain that goes with it. Over time they can also slim a jawline made wide by large masseter muscles. This is often part of TMJ treatment.
Treatment takes about 15 minutes with a very fine needle. Effects begin within a few days, are fully visible after about two weeks, and typically last three to four months. Common side effects are mild: small bruises or brief tenderness. Less often, a nearby muscle is affected temporarily, such as a slightly heavy brow, which resolves as the product wears off.
Fillers: for volume and shape
Hyaluronic acid fillers restore or add volume. They are used to add shape and definition to the lips, soften the lines from the nose to the mouth, support the cheeks and refine the chin and jawline. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the body, and results typically last 6 to 18 months depending on the area and product. Because these fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, results can be adjusted if needed.
Fillers carry rare but serious risks, including blockage of a blood vessel. Knowledge of facial anatomy, careful technique and having hyaluronidase on hand in every office are central to how we work. Swelling and bruising for a few days are common, especially in the lips.
Your consultation
Your surgeon will ask what bothers you, examine your face at rest and in motion, and explain what is realistic. Sometimes the right answer is less, or a different approach, such as chin surgery for a chin that filler can't adequately support. You'll get a clear price before treatment, and follow-up at about two weeks is included to review your result.
