About Dr. Carver

Dr. William Carver is Molly’s Chief Medical Officer and an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at the Newport Beach and Irvine offices. He joined the practice in 1999, straight out of residency, when Molly was still a single office on Avocado Avenue run by its founder, Dr. Margaret “Molly” Calder. He became Chief Medical Officer when she retired in 2019. Today he sets the clinical standards every Molly office follows, from anesthesia monitoring to the way a written estimate is put together.

He earned his DDS at UCLA and his MD at the UCLA School of Medicine, then completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at UCLA Medical Center. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His surgical work centers on the hardest implant cases: full-arch reconstruction, zygomatic and pterygoid implants for patients who have been told they don’t have enough bone, and revision of implants that are failing. He also performs corrective jaw surgery and reviews complex treatment plans for surgeons across the group.

Because part of his week goes to clinical leadership, his own surgical schedule is reserved mostly for referred and complex cases. Patients describe him as unhurried. He sketches the plan on paper during the consultation, explains what could change once surgery begins, and says so plainly when a simpler option would serve someone better. Referring dentists know him for returning their calls the same day.

He paddles an outrigger canoe out of Newport Harbor on weekend mornings and has walked most of the Crystal Cove trails with his wife and their rescue greyhound.

Two practices told me I needed bone grafts from my hip. Dr. Carver explained zygomatic implants with my own scan on the screen and gave me a single written price. Upper arch done in one surgery. Last month I had my first steak in six years.
