About Dr. Bell

Dr. Marcus Bell spends most of his time on the larger operations oral and maxillofacial surgeons are trained for: corrective jaw surgery, facial fractures and jaw advancement for obstructive sleep apnea. He earned his DMD at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and his MD at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, then completed his residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined Molly Pasadena in 2007.

For jaw surgery he works closely with each patient’s orthodontist, often for a year or more before the operation. He uses 3D CBCT scans and virtual surgical planning to map the movements of the jaws on a computer, and the custom guides made from that plan are used in the operating room. For patients with moderate to severe sleep apnea who have not done well with CPAP, he performs maxillomandibular advancement in coordination with their sleep physician. He also takes facial trauma referrals from across the San Gabriel Valley.

Dr. Bell is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. A former college rower, he approaches long cases the same way: steady preparation and a calm team. Patients say he is honest about the recovery, including the weeks of soft diet and the numbness that can take months to settle, and that he makes sure they and their families know who to call at every stage.

Outside the operating room

He runs the Rose Bowl loop at dawn, coaches his son’s AYSO team in Pasadena, and still rows on the Long Beach Marine Stadium when he can.

What patients say about Dr. Bell

Google

Dr. Bell did my upper and lower jaw surgery after two years in braces. He went over the 3D plan with me twice and was realistic about the first two weeks, which were hard but exactly as he described. My bite and my sleep are both better.
